At the Broomhill studios in the 1990s I was becoming increasingly interested in painting. Looking for a surface to paint on ceramics, I developed these unglazed pieces with a masked-off picture format, applying coloured glazes and ceramic pencil. As pure white porcelains became available, this work developed.
